Changsha’s Tianxin District Celebrates Lantern Festival with Four-City Historic Tower Light Linkage

2026-03-04

On the evening of the fifteenth day of the first lunar month in the Year of the Horse, Tianxin District in Changsha hosted the Year of the Horse Lantern Festival Celebration and Tianxin Pavilion City Wall Concert. For the first time, the event connected four historic towers across four cities—Tianxin Pavilion in Changsha, Yellow Crane Tower in Wuhan, Tengwang Pavilion in Nanchang, and Yueyang Tower in Yueyang—through a cross-regional light and projection collaboration. Using technology as a bridge and light as its language, the event created a cultural dialogue across Hunan, Hubei, and Jiangxi, presenting a distinctive Lantern Festival celebration for the Year of the Horse.

As night fell, the four historic landmarks were linked through high-definition projection technology. Greetings reading “Hello Wuhan” “Hello Nanchang” “Hello Yueyang” and “Hello Changsha” illuminated the Yellow Crane Tower in Wuhan, Tengwang Pavilion in Nanchang, Yueyang Tower in Yueyang, and Tianxin Pavilion in Changsha in sequence. Visitors on site stopped to take photos and capture the moment.

At the concert venue, Tianxin District also released the 2026 annual plan for the Tianxin Pavilion City Wall Concert series for the first time. The program will feature three formats—Regular Sessions, Pure Listening, and Community Participation—blending the historic landmark with contemporary music experiences.

According to organizers, the Regular Sessions will periodically host JAM-style improvisational performances by musicians from Changsha, typically on Wednesdays. The Pure Listening format will invite well-known folk singers and independent musicians for dedicated performances from time to time. The Community Participation format will open weekend K-singing challenges and stage competitions, allowing music enthusiasts to register and take part through the official “LightOnTianxin Pavilion”WeChat public account or mini program.

The Lantern Festival celebration in Tianxin District centered around Tianxin Pavilion as its main venue, while linking six popular cultural and tourism locations including NanJiao Park, Fire Palace, and Huangxing Road Pedestrian Street. The program featured a range of themed activities such as light and projection shows, the city wall concert, a Lantern Festival market, and traditional riddle-guessing gatherings. A stamp-collecting lucky draw was also introduced, offering residents festive shopping rewards during the holiday season.

At the Lantern Festival market in the main venue at Tianxin Pavilion, visitors found a vibrant mix of intangible cultural heritage crafts, creative cultural products, specialty foods, and interactive folk activities. Traditional performances—including the God of Wealth delivering blessings and lively lion dances welcoming the new year—took place throughout the evening, creating a joyful and festive atmosphere.
